24-hour advance notice is required when cancelling or re-scheduling a massage appointment. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment.
Anyone who fails to show up for a scheduled massage and does not provide 24 hours cancellation notice, will be considered a “no-show” and will be charged full price for the scheduled service.
Please arrive 10 minutes earlier to fill out an intake form. If you arrive late, your session may be shortened in order to accommodate others whose appointments follow yours.
Your massage therapist may require you to fill out an intake form. Afterward the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you.
It depends on your goals, so be sure to tell your therapist at the beginning of your session if you’re looking for improved flexibility, relaxation, relief of a particular stress point, or anything else.
If you’d like the therapist to use less or more pressure, please say so at any time during your massage. Communication is important for getting the greatest benefit from your session.
At Belle Therapy, we use only hypoallergenic lotions. This allows for optimal manipulation of muscles, frictionless glide, and fewer — if any — reapplications. Additionally, our clients tend to prefer lotion for the cleaner feel and smoother absorption — much like a body lotion. For specialty sessions like Deep Muscle Therapy or Aromatherapy enhancements, additional lotions may be used.
It depends on where you are in your pregnancy. After discussing your situation, the therapist might recommend specialties like Reflexology or Swedish massage to meet your individual needs — and those of your baby.
Honestly, it’s hard to say. Every person is unique and every condition is unique to each person. It may take one session or it may take several. You and your therapist will be able to talk more specifically about this after your first session and he/she has had a chance to evaluate your body’s tissues.
In my opinion there are few conditions which would prevent you from enjoying massage; You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection.
Massage should not be performed in any area of the body with blood clots, fractures or weakened bones, open or healing wounds, skin infections, or where there has been a recent surgery.
If you are pregnant wait until your second trimester before getting a massage. Your body is dealing with so many changes in your first trimester it is best to not overwhelm your system with bodywork.
“Some is better than none.”
What does that mean? Well, it varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be fine for you.
However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly taper down to a maintenance schedule. Sometimes more frequent 30-minute sessions can be effective until your goals are met and a maintenance schedule is in place.
You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. However, if you will be more comfortable during the session if you leave your underwear on, that’s fine. The therapist will work around the clothes you left on as best as he/she can. If removing all your clothes makes you too nervous and unable to relax, then you are not getting the optimal benefit from the session.
Most people feel very relaxed, take your time getting up off the table it is possible you may feel a bit lightheaded.
The intention of deep tissue massage is not to cause pain, although it is possible for muscle tenderness to occur in the days following treatment.
You may feel a little sore like when you do a good workout, it will subside in a few days. Remember to drink plenty of water, metabolic waste may be released from your soft tissues during massage and water will aid the systems of your body to function properly and rid them from your body.
